The 1920's were considered the "Golden Age" of cinema for Germany. Many directors focused on artistic shots and compelling dialogue. Many German filmmakers (Jewish and otherwise) immigrated to the United States to escape Hitler's regime, and the Golden Age ended in the 1930's with the arrival of the Great Depression.
Notable films of 1920's cinema (European and American):
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Madame Dubarry
Siegfried
Metropolis
Nosferatu
Pandora's Box
Zero for Conduct
