Augusta Evans - 1976 short documentary

1. How do you initially think, feel, respond about/to the film?
I feel a little sad for her, both for what she's been through in her life growing up and for the fact that all but one of her family members is deceased.

2. Are there any aspects of Augusta Evans’ life and story that surprise you? What? Why?
Aside from that, I am a bit perplexed as to her still taking Western values so eagerly into her life, even though it was part of what stripped her of her original way of life.

3. Do you have someone like Augusta in your life?
I do not.

4. How might you characterize Augusta as a pedagogical figure within her family and community?
She is one of the last of her kind. She is old, wise, and still very rooted in the origins of her culture. Young adults are eager to learn of the old ways she had learned to live, cook, clean, speak, sing, entertain, etc. Alas for her, she says young children and teenagers are not interested in learning Shuswap language or culture, which means her culture is a dying one.
