What I Have Learned

In the past 3 months, I have learned many things.

  • I have learned that some kids still need their hand held sometimes, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
  • I learned how to tell the difference between positive punishment and negative reinforcement.
  • I learned that the best way to deal with bad behaviour is to prevent it from starting
  • Routines are essential for starting and ending a class. It helps solidify the mindset of the class and it shifts the kids' focus from whatever they were doing before they arrived.
  • A little praise can go a long way (Operant Conditioning).
  • Class Discussion > Lectures.
  • I learned about the elements of teacher differentiation.
  • Inclusive education: “In Alberta, inclusion in the education system is about ensuring that each student belongs and receives a quality education no matter their ability, disability, language, cultural background, gender, or age."
  • Smile often. Kids will listen to you if they like you.

Thank you for all your help getting me to the next step of my jouney to becoming an Educator!
Have a good summer,
Chris
