The teachers in my schools growing up whom I always found to be the most diverse in how effective their teaching methods were were the English teachers. Most of my other teachers were pretty much straightforward with everything that was expected - In English, however, I could always count on the teacher to either be extremely active or extremely lackluster.
One teacher was terrible - she said next to nothing, and when she did, she talked facing a piece of paper which I assume was her script for the duration of the class, which she followed word for word and nothing more. Her answers to questions were dismissive, often pointing us back to the text or instructions on the assignments.
Another teacher, who I am still in contact with today, and whose initials are PCR, talked to us constantly, made sure we all took turns reading text from novels out loud (the Shakespeare plays were especially fun), and practically begged us to ask questions. She was also great at giving extensions, make-up assignments, and help out of school for those who needed it. I plan to work as a shadow for her class(es) again this spring.
That is my story.
